Welcome to The River Counselling:
Navigating life's currents together

At The River Counselling, based in Nottingham near the River Trent, I understand that life's currents can bring moments of profound grief, significant loss, unexpected change, or the challenging journey of exploring neurodiversity. These experiences, though universal, can feel isolating. We are here to offer a safe, trauma informed and empathetic space for adults to explore these feelings, find understanding, and discover new paths forward. Join us as we navigate your journey with care and compassion.

Hello, I'm Pamela

So I am not a stranger, here is a little bit about me. I reached a point in my life where I was unhappy in my job, my children had left home and I felt lost despite having lots of wonderful people and experiences in my life. I left teaching and spent time reflecting on what was next.

I retrained as a counsellor and gained experience through volunteering as a counsellor at Childline and at Treetops Hospice. Supporting people at a difficult point in their life is a tremendous privilege and work which I find rewarding.

By bringing my life experience, training and personality to counselling I hope to work together with you to help you find a path  to live the life you want.

I'm a Nottingham lass who fills her time with plants, art, knitting, saxophones and gets outside as much as possible.

That's me. I'd like to know more about you.

River of Life

My inspiration for The River Counselling comes from the metaphor of life being like a river. The nature of grief and loss, whether from the devastating death of a loved one or the subtle shifts of life's choices is something we all experience. These moments, while painful, also hold potential for growth. It's often hard to understand the complex emotions that arise, especially when faced with societal expectations. I also bring a deep personal and professional understanding of neurodiversity, working with neurodiverse individuals in education, and advocating for better understanding. I recognise and value in the many different ways people experience the world.

Finding your flow: What you'll gain

After engaging with The River Counselling, my deepest hope is for you to feel safe, encouraged, and truly heard. You will gain a sense of agency over your experiences, nurtured by empathy and genuine care. My aim is to foster hope, helping you navigate complex emotions and ultimately empowering you to understand yourself and your experiences more profoundly. Together, we'll work towards a place of peace and confident self-discovery.

"The River Counselling provided a gentle space for me to process my grief. I finally felt heard and gained the confidence to move forward. Truly transformative."
